Jets (chrebet1024) suspension Empty Jets (chrebet1024) suspension

    Post by chrebet1024

    I am suspending myself.

After the draft I cut MLB Jamar Chaney thinking I didn't need him. Then while scoping out FA I resigned him.

This actually helped me save some money against my cap (didn't save much, maybe 350k or something)......but this is ILLEGAL according to our rules.......you cannot cut a guy and then immediately resign him.

This is an infamous madden trick which saves money against the cap in some situations AMD is specifically banned in our rulebook.

Jets MLB D.Davis is suspended for the first 2 games of the season.

I'm always looking at the transaction log for this....and if anybody else notices somebody else doing this.....then please call it out.

The reason the NFL is so great is because of the salary cap....it creates parody and forces teams to make painful decisions.

We MUST make TOUGH decisions with the salary cap....NOT find shady ways around it.

I'm not sure if this counts but I may have signed a guy from FA last night after the draft, then dropped him because I was going to pick up someone else I saw moments later, but when I tried to sign to other guy it said someone already signed him.....so I resigned my original selection.  I think that's all tho......I didn't drop anyone that was already on my team from last season and resigned them.  Let me know if I'm in trouble too....

Ya I don't think this should be a prob bc I've had a CPU drop a player during cuts after the preseason advance then you have to go back in and resign the player u didn't want cut. I totally see where the rule is needed bc some players are over paid for their age and a new deal can save you money.

....well what do you guys think?

Some think that doing the "Cut and Sign" thing is cheezy......it saves you money in some situations and ASSURES that you pick him up again right away for a LOWER SALARY at 1 year.  You shouldn't be able to save money when you sign a guy to a stupid deal.

    That's pretty crappy.

.....on the other side, you can look at it as Madden's version of "Reworking a Deal," like is commonly done in the NFL.

IDK, I think it's pretty cheezy to do it TBH...but I can see some leagues not caring if it is done.

I mean the whole Free Agency system sucks anyway....Automatic 1 year deals with a salary based on the OVR rating?

If we made it legal...wouldn't it happen frequently...where guys with long term deals would be intentionally cut and then resigned????  It gets you out of sticky situations frequently.

Shouldn't happen to save $, last season i released and signed WR M.Floyd like 5 times in one day (indecision) but his salary was always the same.

Couldn't you just suspend the guy in question? Then i think the punishment would fit the crime

Well here's where it is abused....

Say u got a guy signed to a bad long term deal....but his ovr rating is low and doesn't warrant the money he is getting oayed.

Cutting him and then resigning him to that automatic one year deal for say 880k (based on their ovr rating)....could save u IMMENSE money.

....and there is no risk...BC he will only be out in the FA pool for a second.

Jmo 2 games doesnt seem harsh enough, some guys will look at two games and think its worht the two game lay off...

If I was an owner up against the cap during the offseason......I would rather take a couple games suspension rather than lose a good player.   It's a no-brainer.  Especially when you get into the later years of those big contracts.

Now in this case and in all cases really.....I think we need to come to a conclusion wether or not the owner did it purposely with the intent to save a bunch of money or if it was accidental.  I think in Chrebet's case the slap on the wrist is fine.  But in a case where say I, the Patriots, bid for and sign FA offensive lineman Yanda and Ducasse to 11 million and 6.5 million dollar a year deals respectively (which did happen), then at some point I quickly drop and resign them to the cheaper 1 year contracts (especially a guy like Ducasse who would make 1.5 a year vs. 6.5)..... If your not taking a big cap penalty then this can get you out of some pretty bad contracts and would be worth a couple games suspension.  In a case like this, I think the player should be dropped.....maybe just boot the owner. It's cheesy in my opinion.....

agreed BC....also guys...feel free to scope the transaction report for guys who do this.  As we enter Season 4, Salary Cap gets tougher.

We also still have to check the Rosters at 53 players.....somebody help me out with that...don't know next time I'll be on.
