Matt Simms leads Jets to thrilling victory

M25-2015 News Center B1jets78Jets Escape With Thrilling Victory
The Colts, up 14 points in the 4th quarter, had victory almost sealed.  They were dominating the Jets defense all game through the air (as Luck went over 300 yards on the day), and it was run the clock out time for Luck and crew.  And then BAM, Jets Safety Brandon Hardin hit Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw so hard he fumbled, and CB Demarcus Van Dyke scooped it up for a fumble return TD.
Two possessions later, QB Matt Simms and RB David Blumburg drove the Jets down the field for the tying score with under a minute remaining in the game as Blumburg punched one in from 3 yards out.
On the opening Colts possession of overtime, the Jets defense proved their worth, stopping the Colts 3 and out.  On a critical 3rd and 1 for the Jets, on the ensuing drive, the Colts ran commit to the middle and RB David Blumburg took a pitch for about 50 yards to the Colts 15 yard line, which set up the game winning FG by David Buehler.

    Fitz gets serious with squad
M25-2015 News Center B1card23Fitz Holds Team Meeting
During the bye week the Arizona Cardinals held a players only meeting today trying to get the team back in the right direction. The Cardinals lost a heartbreaker last weekend against the Chicago Bears. Just one week after losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the closing minutes.

There was a lot of speculation that the meeting was about head coach, Bruce Arians. As many disappointed fans can remember, Arians is just a year removed from leading the Cardinals to an 0-16 season. When asked if the meeting had anything to do with the way the coach Bruce Arians has been running the team, Fitzgerald responded saying "It was about us! Men talking and holding each other accountable, because we all know we are capable of playing so much better."

The speakers at the players-only meeting included the only player fans are blaming for the loss: quarterback Nick Foles. While Foles has been far from good he is has not been the only one responsible for the Cardinals losses.

"I just want to clear it up," wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald said in an interview. "We are 100 percent behind Nick and the decisions he makes. Nobody holds Nick more accountable than himself. We all know he hasn't played well, but nobody else has stepped up. In this game if one guy is struggling the rest of the guys need to pick it up, and make the extra play!"

When asked why they thought they needed to have a players only meeting defensive end Arthur Jones said, "It's been a rough start for us and things haven't really gone our way. We have a lot of young players on the team and we just wanted to make sure they weren't getting their heads down to trust in the game plan and just to focus on the task at hand this week."

Next up for the Cardinals are the St. Louis Rams who are arguably one of the worst teams in the league. They rank dead last in offense, and towards the bottom of the pack in defense. The Cardinals are favored to win by 3.

After the first week of the season all looked great with a 31-10 win over the Cowboys. Since then the offense has only been able to muster 14, 13, 13, 10, 7 points in the following weeks. A trend that has many scratching their heads. Costly turnovers lately have been troublesome but the bottom line is the offense just isn't putting up the necessary points to win in the MEFL. "If the defense can sustain their stinginess and the offense can get 24-28 points a game then this is a playoff team" team captain Cam Newton said at tuesdays press conference.

When asked about recent trade rumors he declined to answer. Which would be a peculiar move by the front office, maybe the team and the player are too far apart in the negotiations? Maybe the team feels like they can cash in one the MEFL's top player? At this point anyone can guess. With Atlanta heading into Carolina this weekend it is a must win if they have any hope at squeezing into the playoffs somehow.
