Dolphins / Falcons Gameplay Example

Post by chrebet1024

Dolphins were up by 27 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter.....around mid-field.

He then ran a playaction pass to score another TD, to go up 34.

(this is the info I received)...

...I'm curious to see what kind of opinions come from this.  What do you guys think?  Ok or No?  Is that piling on or no?

I am new, but I think that was questionable sportsmanship

I think so. If I'm up 20+ in the 2nd half I run the ball and the clock. Maybe throw a pass on 3rd down just to pick up a 1st and run more clock. When up that much you should be getting nothing but FGs, unless your player breaks a bunch of tackles

It depends.. This is a tough call.. I am leaning that it is not quite called for up 27-3 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd.. On the other side, the game is not quite over.. If the losing team scores a TD before the 3rd qtr is over, the score is 27-10 going into the 4th..

Now with that being said, if Im up in this situation, I'm likely only throwing safe passes to extend the drive in an effort to keep the clock running.. I could see how this may be perceived as running up the score. For me it comes down to my opponent. If I know/feel this opponent is capable of turning the game around, I may go for the juggler if I see an opportunity. If I am comfortable with the lead based on my head to head record against this owner, Im not making that call. Im going to do my best to keep the clock running in the interest of sportsmanship..

No, not in the 3rd quarter. If it was the 4th then yes I agree.

I'm fine with it...I've seen plenty of 20+.pt leads evaporate in the 4th. If it's 30+ or 4th quarter I'd say no.

I felt the game wasn't over at that point. Still time in the 3rd. 10 minute quarters are long and particularly with the no huddles he would have the opportunity to run. I had predominantly been running in the 3rd (I threw under 16? passes all game). I felt he was heavily coming at me knowing I was running. I did not even plan to throw to that route but right away I saw he left no one over top so I took it. I ran every play from then on out. I just felt it wasn't over.

I was more disappointed in the fact that Falcons started to play the victim and knelt the ball IN THE 3RD QUARTER. To me an NFL team would keep playing to avoid comebacks at where we were at. An NFL team would NEVER kneel the ball in the 3rd quarter. I was very disappointed to how he reacted. Not to mention the text messages after the pass how I was running up score... I replied explaining how I didn't think it was over yet and that I was sorry if he felt that way. I told him I would run from here out however I was met by more rude and sarcastic texts.

I have personally scored 31 points in the 4th quarter to win a game..... 27 in the 3rd is not necessarily a big lead.

I don't see a problem with it in the 3rd quarter especially if he was all out blitzing all the time on defense. Kneeing in the 3rd quarter is wrong try to sustain a drive to chew up clock if you are just trying to get it over. My two cents.

He kneeled the ball in the 3rd because he was upset of my last TD.

Yeah that was directed towards falcons.

If my opponent concedes in the third (backup QB), then I'm done too. A play action or screen, on third down, in the third quarter doesn't sound unreasonable especially how clax describes it. Wish guys would post more problems like this instead of going to chrebet every time

Madden momentum is crazy this year. A 27 point lead is not safe in the late 3rd by any means. Ask rafa, I scored 17 in final 3 mins to win a game in mxl a bit back. Not this madden but a past madden Ive score 35 in 1q to come back to win. Ive been on both sides of this, and yes "most" cases the game is usually done. But this gm luck can change at the drop of a dime. If its mid 4th, diff story. Just my view.

its a legit play. no real life team pulls up in the 3rd q. 27 points is not a gauranteed win with a q and some change on the clock.

I will say this it is an unwritten rule that a few of us owners follow.. Look we know who is good and who some of the weaker opponents are. If I'm ip 27 in the 3'rd and it's against a weaker team or opponent and they are clearly struggling to put up points, I'm running and not throwing. I know it sucks ya hate starting the run out the clock game in the 3rd qter but I've had to do it 60-70 times already. You know when a game is clearly over when yr opponent can't find the endzone. Sure there is no rule but I'd like to think by now we all have a feel for who is who. Just my thoughts on this as there is no right or wrong answer on this topic.
